- Transpose Rows and Columns using Paste Special. Is your data table lay-out a bit off? Try changing your table by switching the row headings with the column headings.
By using the Paste Special feature Transpose, we can swap our Rows and Columns while ensuring that the data still matches up.

1. Open an Excel file with data layed out in a table, or use our sample file.
2. Highlight the data that you would like to transpose and copy the data (CTRL+C).
3. Click on cell where you want to paste the data.
4. Paste the data by using the Paste Special > Transpose feature.
- Excel 2007 & 2010 Users:
Click on the Home tab's Paste drop-down and select Transpose OR you can select Paste Special and check the Transpose option and click OK.
- Excel 2003 Users:
To access the Transpose feature, use the menu Edit > Paste Special > Transpose.
4. Notice that your data has its columns and rows swapped.
